How to properly finalize and secure your post-production session at ForCut Studio

A post-production session doesn't end with the final cut. Finalization, mastering, and data security are crucial steps to ensure the broadcast quality and longevity of your work. This guide walks you through the final stages of your project at ForCut Studio.

Why is finalization crucial?

The finishing phase is often overlooked due to fatigue at the end of a project, but this is where the technical quality of your film is determined. Proper finalization ensures: • Compliance with broadcast standards (TV, Cinema, Web) • The longevity of your project (ability to reopen it in 5 years) • Absence of technical glitches (artifacts, illegal audio levels)

1. Recover and Consolidate Your Elements

Consolidation and Cleanup

Before even exporting, make sure your project is clean.

2. Organize Your Folder Structure

For Durable Archiving

Don't leave your exports scattered at the root of your drive.

Frequently Asked Questions about Finalization

Which codec should I use for YouTube/Vimeo?

For uploading, prefer ProRes 422 or high-bitrate H.264 (minimum 20-30 Mbps for 1080p, 50-80 Mbps for 4K) to avoid destructive double compression.

Can I make a DCP at ForCut Studio?

You can export a DCP package from DaVinci Resolve Studio (paid version included in our rooms). However, for commercial theater projection, we recommend having the DCP validated by a specialized lab.

Should I keep the original Rushes?

Yes, absolutely. The Master is a 'baked' version. If you need to re-grade in 2 years, you will need the original Rushes (RAW, Log).

How do I check my audio levels?

Use the Loudness Metering tools built into DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro. Web standard is often around -14 LUFS, strict TV standard is -23 LUFS (EBU R128).

Properly finalizing a project is a mark of professionalism. By following these steps at ForCut Studio, you ensure your creative work is technically flawless and secured for the future.
